Showa Industries road to SDGs.

While PET bottles play an important role as packaging containers that protect the quality of foods and beverages, they consume a lot of resources and energy from manufacturing to disposal.
We manufacture and develop PET and other PE and PP bottles based on both "Sustainability" and "Quality".


Promotion of recycled materials

We are working on the development and manufacture of products using recycled raw materials that are crushed from collected PET bottles and PP (polypropylene) bottles. We will reuse limited resources and contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Weight reduction of PET bottles

Weight reduction reduces the amount of raw materials used and leads to a reduction in the environmental burden. However, it is premised that the quality of the container, such as "maintaining the quality of the contents", "securing the strength required for transportation and storage in the warehouse", and "shape that is easy for the user to hold", which is the original role of the container, is not deteriorated. While contributing to resource and energy conservation, we will work to reduce the weight of PET bottles to meet these conditions.

Promotion of energy saving

We are updating aging lighting and equipment to LEDs and energy-saving equipment. Besids, we will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions by controlling the amount of electricity used in the entire factory by working toward the power saving target so that the company as a whole does not use wasteful electricity.

In addition, we have been certified as an excellent energy-saving business operator (S class) by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry's energy-saving business classification evaluation for the fourth consecutive year since 2018. We will keeping at this great evaluation result well.


Initiatives for biomass plastics

Biomass is “renewable organic resources produced from plants and animals”.
Biomass plastics are made from plant-derived raw materials such as corn and sugarcane. Carbon dioxide is also produced when biomass plastic is burned, but it is carbon dioxide absorbed by photosynthesis when the plants that are the raw materials of biomass plastic grow, so it does not affect the increase or decrease of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This idea is called “carbon neutral” and has been attracting attention in recent years. Biomass plastics are expected to continue to attract attention as plastic materials that can contribute to the prevention of global warming.
Showa Industry will take on the challenge of manufacturing plastic bottles using this biomass raw material.
